Why the OECD’s Work on Anti-Illicit Trade Matters
The OECD serves as a global platform for improving policymakers’ understanding of the market vulnerabilities created and exploited by illicit trade, enhancing international cooperation, and supporting practical actions to reduce and deter illicit trade. The OECD provides high-quality data, analysis, and insights into the scale, methods, and impacts of illicit trade across high-risk sectors (e.g., tobacco, pharmaceuticals, counterfeits) and regions, as well as designs and promotes standards and good practices to counter illicit trade, with the 2019 Recommendation on Enhancing Transparency in Free Trade Zones.
Our 2025 Priorities
How Business Engages with the OECD on Anti-Illicit Trade
In order to counter the global threat of illicit trade more effectively, the OECD supports a whole-of-government approach and engaging with the private sector. Business at OECD’s Anti-Illicit Trade Expert Group is committed to advancing the OECD’s global leadership and promoting the latest evidence, best practices and innovative strategies to counter illicit trade developed by the OECD’s Working Party on Countering Illicit Trade. Business at OECD’s efforts to advance the OECD’s work include innovative private-sector led projects, dynamic public-private partnerships, mutually agreed dialogues, workshops, training, and support for capacity-building initiatives.
